The 3 Steps of our Weight Loss Program

Weight Reduction
This step is designed to lose excess weight as quickly and safely as possible. A very low calorie diet combined with moderate daily exercise will result in significant weight reduction in patients who follow the basic regimen. Prescription appetite suppressant medication will be dispensed from our office. Phentermine Is the leading prescription diet pill in the United States. To get the most out of the medication, it is important to know what you need to do to lose weight and keep it off. Our physician will provide you with the necessary lifestyle changes and food guide which is crucial in your weight loss.

Phentermine works by suppressing appetite. To lose weight quickly, you need to keep your metabolism running with healthy snacks and meals throughout the day.

You will also receive a Vitamin B12 injection at every visit. B12 is the energy vitamin. It helps with blood cells, nerve function, DNA, and is necessary for your brain and immune system.

Regular exercise throughout STEP 1 will insure continued progress. Patients remain in STEP 1 until they reach their goal weight and then enter STEP 2. Here the focus shifts to learning an individualized, long term weight management plan.

Initial evaluation includes:

  • Complete history and physical examination
  • Electrocardiogram
  • Blood test panel
  • First week’s medication
  • Thorough program and dietary instruction
  • Metabolic support injection

Weekly followup / refill visits include:

  • Weight and BMI check
  • Blood pressure and pulse check
  • Assessment of progress & planning for the next week

Calorie Management
Patients are provided with instructions to helps them implement a life long Weight Management plan specifically tailored to their caloric needs and dietary preferences. Appetite suppressants will be weaned. Exercise continues to be a useful tool to manage and control weight. Weekly visits are still required in STEP 2 and all of the procedures done during STEP 1 followup visits are still performed, including the B12 injections. The initial Step 2 counseling visit, includes a tapering dose of medication and materials to use in dietary planning. Subsequent visits follow progress as medication is tapered and a more normal dietary pattern is introduced. When patients demonstrate a stable weight off medication, they move to STEP 3!
Weight Management
Once patients weight is stable over 3-4 weeks, patients move to the Weight Management step to continue success in the long term. Biweekly followup visits initially quickly change to monthly visits as weight and fat mass remain stable. Vitamin B12 Injections and all of the procedures done during STEP 2 followup visits are still performed at each visit.

Criteria for Physician Weight Loss Programs

Patients must meet specific criteria for program participation which differ for men and women.

Use of prescription appetite suppressant medication in conjunction with diet and exercise for weight loss is strictly regulated by state and federal regulations. Body mass index (BMI = Weight in KG ÷ Height in M2), which is based on gross body weight, is used for initial evaluation and follow-up visits. A high BMI can be an indicator of high body fatness. BMI can be used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems.

Those who meet minimum criteria may schedule an initial visit at any time. Patients who do not meet minimum Step 1 participation criteria based on BMI may still participate in Step 1 if Dr. Williams finds a significant co-morbidity (associated illness) related to excess body weight, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis in weight-bearing joints.
